Last of the 9/11 Article Series – Article #9: The Anthrax Connection Part Two
Here’s a question that has never been officially addressed let alone answered. Were the senate anthrax attacks used as a ploy to galvanize Congress into passing the USA Patriot Act? The Patriot Act, which was well over 100 pages in length and enacted within 45 days of the 9/11 attacks, radically increased the power of the federal government, including the intelligence agencies and law enforcement, while threatening the rights and freedoms of innocent U.S. citizens.
In fact what was euphemistically presented to the American public as a “Patriot Act” was in reality a monstrosity that attacked civil liberties, touched-off a War on Iraq predicated on nonexistent weapons of mass destruction, and jump-started the War on Terror.
Although the Patriot Act was initially presented to Congress as a response to the September 11th attacks, perhaps the ensuing anthrax attacks were used to pressure Congress to pass the Patriot Act when resistance to began to mount. The Bush Administration wanted the Patriot Act passed without hesitation by early October 2001.
Which senators were a threat to the Act’s passage? Senators Daschle and Leahy – the two targets of the anthrax poison pen letters!
An article from the October 3, 2001 edition of the New York Times titled A NATION CHALLENGED: LEGISLATION; Democrats In Senate Are Pressured On Terror Bill states:
“Democratic staff aides from the Senate Judiciary Committee have held several long negotiating sessions with officials from the White House and Justice Department over the last 10 days in an effort to resolve their differences. With Mr. Leahy taking the lead, Democrats have said that they will not be rushed by the crisis atmosphere into approving a package they believe could improperly curtail civil liberties. ….
In the Senate, Mr. Leahy has successfully fought off arguments to speed the legislation. Today he told reporters that he did not want to repeat what he called the mistakes made after the bombing of Oklahoma City in 1995, when many found [that the] quickly enacted antiterrorism legislation was greatly flawed.”
As the Senate Majority Leader Daschle could influence not only how fast the Act was passed but also its provisions. After some stormy sessions the Patriot Act was authorized on October 26, 2001. Interestingly it was between October 6 and October 9, 2001, that letters containing the sophisticated and lethal preparation of anthrax spores were mailed specifically to Leahy and Daschle. Is it not suspicious that no other senator or other member of Congress received poison pen letters?
Although the evidence is circumstantial it nonetheless supports the notion that one of the likely motives for the anthrax attacks on Senator Leahy and Senator Daschle was to either rush the vote on the Patriot Act or to ensure its passage by any means necessary, including a biowarfare attack on the U.S. Congress.
Let’s think this through. A deadly military strain of anthrax, whose provenance was purposefully obscured by the FBI – but in all likelihood originated in secret labs found within Dugway Proving Grounds or the Battelle Memorial Institute, or both – was mailed to two senators who were in the eye of the storm regarding the passage of a so-called Patriot Act. Ostensibly this was done to pressure them into approving the enactment of draconian legislation, crudely disguised as patriotism, though in reality was probably nothing less than a full-frontal attack on the liberty and freedoms of Americans. Once the terror bill was passed the mailings suddenly stop. If indeed the mailings were intended to stifle congressional opposition to the so-called Patriot Act than does that mean that some part of the government was part of the shadowy hand orchestrating the anthrax attacks? Which in turn accounts for the FBI’s shabby investigation.
How many Americans are aware that high level government officials were apparently provided the antibiotic Cipro, the treatment of choice for treating Anthrax, before the deadly spores were released?
On August 4, 2002 during a C-Span broadcast Larry Klayman explained that “the President’s office and the Vice President’s office went on Cipro … the White House must have known that an [anthrax] attack was underway or was imminent.” Klayman also explained that Judicial Watch was filing a lawsuit on behalf of postal workers who were not provided with Cipro prophylactically and succumbed to the deadly pathogen.

White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer went even further saying that on 9/11 everyone onboard Air Force One was provided with Cipro!
Here’s an account from Politico:
Col. Dr. Richard Tubb: “The thing at that moment I was most worried about was a biologic [attack]. In the unlikely but high-risk scenario, I thought there was little harm to be prophylaxing the staff with antibiotics. It seemed like almost science fiction. I gave everyone on the plane a week of Cipro. I hoped by the time they ran out, we’d have figured out the fog of war and know whether we needed to continue measures.”
The article continues.
Brian Montgomery: “I noticed that Dr. Tubb was walking and talking to each person. He’d lean over and whisper to each person, pat them on the shoulder, and he’d hand over a little envelope, like what the military uses to put pills in. He got to me and said, “Monty”—that was my nickname—“how do you feel?” I said, “Other than the obvious, physically, I feel fine.” “You don’t feel disoriented?” “Nope.” Then he said, “Have you ever heard of Cipro? We don’t know what might’ve been in that school, so we’re just being careful.” I asked him, “What’s it used for?” He told me, “In case it’s anthrax.”
According to Col. Dr. Richard Tubb:

Hmmm. “It was scary later realizing later that fall anthrax wasn’t as unimaginable as we’d thought.”
Question!! Was the colonel prescient or is his assertion nothing more than gold-plated canard? The Colonel also said: “We don’t know what might’ve been in that school, so we’re just being careful.” Well, Colonel, if you were that concerned about what “might have been in that school,” did you voice your concern to the school officials so they would have an opportunity to take preventive measures?
