For Thirty Years FBI Covered-Up True Cause of July 1996 TWA 800 Fiery Crash

On July 17, 1996 – twelve minutes after take off from New York’s Kennedy International Airport – a Boeing 747 headed for Paris exploded in midair over the Atlantic Ocean instantly killing all 230 people aboard. The resulting four-year investigation into what caused the fatal crash of Trans World Airlines Flight 800 was the longest, and at $40 million, the most expensive in the history of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

Witnesses of the crash reported seeing a fiery explosion in the night sky, followed by a shower of flaming debris. Almost immediately there was speculation that the plane had been the target of a terrorist attack, with many claiming they’d spotted what appeared to be a missile heading toward the plane just before it exploded. Included among the eyewitnesses, were Air National Guard pilots, Captain Christian Baur and Major Frederick Meyer, who stated that they witnessed closeup events from a Blackhawk helicopter that indicated a missile caused the crash of TWA 800.

In August 2020 the NTSB issued its report which centered on alleged defects associated with the center wing fuel tank.


“The probable cause of the TWA flight 800 accident was an explosion of the center wing fuel tank (CWT), resulting from ignition of the flammable fuel/air mixture in the tank. The source of ignition energy for the explosion could not be determined with certainty, but, of the sources evaluated by the investigation, the most likely was a short circuit outside of the CWT that allowed excessive voltage to enter it through electrical wiring associated with the fuel quantity indication system. …

The safety issues in this report focus on fuel tank flammability, fuel tank ignition sources, design and certification standards, and the maintenance and aging of aircraft systems.”

John Purvis, head of the accident investigation unit for the Boeing Company at the time of the event publicly declared:

The explosion that occurred on TWA 800 was in the center wing fuel tank and was not from anything external … The NTSB was never able to pin-point the precise cause, but it was clear that it was from within the tank.”

Twenty one years after its investigation report was written, in a February 2, 2021 press release, the NTSB Managing Director Sharon Bryson, announced:

The investigation of the crash of TWA Flight 800 is a seminal moment in aviation safety history. From that investigation we issued safety recommendations that fundamentally changed the way aircraft are designed.”

The 1996 crash of Trans World Airlines Flight 800 was one of the deadliest aviation incidents in mankind’s history. For over a quarter of a century the true cause of the fatal crash that killed 230 people has been concealed from the public by the FBI. Its cause is one of the biggest cover-ups in history. Since day one there was speculation that a terrorist attack was the culprit necessitating FBI involvement. According to a federal lawsuit the FBI outright hijacked the investigation:

Instead of allowing the National Transportation Safety Board, the agency tasked with investigating all domestic aviation incidents, to lead the investigation of the TWA 800 incident ..the FBI essentially froze the NTSB out of the investigation.”

It turns out that an errant U.S. Navy missile demolished the aircraft.

This was the screaming headline of the July 18, 2022 edition of the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. The expressive article states in part:

The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Massachusetts, charges that the federal government released a false report contending that the explosion in the plane was the result of an electrical fire in its center fuel tank.”

The article continues to say,

The federal government released a false report contending that the explosion in the plane was the result of an electrical fire in its center fuel tank.”

Compare and contrast that quote with the NTSB 2021 February press release:

We issued safety recommendations that fundamentally changed the way aircraft are designed.”

Evidently safety recommendations were issued based on a false report.

How was the critical evidence obtained that a missile destroyed the Boeing aircraft? The article explains:

Only recently, thanks to the work of physicist, Dr. Thomas Stalcup, through his Freedom of Information Act litigation in Massachusetts federal court, has evidence emerged proving that the TWA 800 explosion was not caused by any defect in the airplane, but instead by an errant United States missile fired at aerial target drones flying nearby.”

Here is another provocative headline:

OH HOW THEY LIE!

During a June 2013 interview that featured physicist Dr. Tom Stalcup together with Megyn Kelly and James Kallstrom, the FBI agent who ran the TWA crash investigation, Kallstrom arrogantly lashed out: NOT A MISSILE. NEVER WAS, NEVER WILL BE.

For 25 years Stalcup fought with unrelenting grit to obtain crucial radar images that the FBI confiscated from East Coast naval installations within hours of the incident.

According to the federal lawsuit:

The FBI removed all copies (original and duplicates) of Navy radar tapes from the Navy, placing them out of the NTSB’s reach.

The coveted tapes conclusively reveal that an errant U.S. Navy missile caused the deadly crash. After an epic struggle that spanned a quarter of a century, Stalcup obtained prima facie evidence that the FBI lied about the true cause of the deadly crash.

The Williamsport Sun-Gazette article included this stunner:

Did you catch that???

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency;

the Department of Defense;

the U.S. Navy;

Raytheon Company;

and Lockheed Martin Corp

every single one of these behemoths are accused of perpetrating, a whopper cover-up.

The Williamsport Sun-Gazette article also featured:

It is further contended by plaintiffs that the defendants ‘engaged in a top-down cover-up to prevent the public from learning the truth about TWA 800.’”

The culprits’ scheme to engage “in a top-down cover-up” would never have been successful were it not for anemic news coverage that readily sensationalizes tragic events but too often fails to aggressively investigate their true cause. Consequently the marauding FBI not only badgers and threatens pliable witnesses but usurps other federal investigating agencies like the NTSB to bend to their will.

Result? The NTSB recommended sweeping changes to how aircraft are designed entirely based on a web of lies created, disseminated, and sustained by the unctuous FBI.

Were it not for the valorous actions of physicist Dr. Tom Stalcup the FBI may well have succeeded – once again – in deceiving the public. What else is new?
