Some might say he found himself in the woods

A drunken Turkish man reportedly found himself in the woods after assisting in an hours-long search party for … himself.

What are the details?

According to a Wednesday report from the Daily Mail, 50-year-old Beyhan Mutlu, a Turkey resident living in the northwestern Bursa province’s Inegöl district, was reportedly drinking with a group of friends earlier this month when he wandered off alone into the forests of Cayyaka.

His friends, according to the outlet, became concerned when they couldn’t locate him after several hours and, along with Mutlu’s wife, reported their loved one missing.

A search party was almost immediately formed, and the group began scouring the area for the missing man.

Meanwhile, during his wanderings, Mutlu was said to have eventually stumbled upon a search party that was combing through the trees for a missing person. Local reports noted that Mutlu was inspired to join the search party and began taking on the valiant effort to track down the missing person despite his reported intoxication.

Mutlu likely looked high and low during the search, but it was only when one of the rescuers began shouting his name that he realized his error and reportedly responded, “Who are we looking for? I am here.”

The outlet reported that law enforcement officials then took him aside to confirm his identity and question what happened over the previous hours. During questioning, Mutlu reportedly expressed concerns that he was going to get into trouble with his family.

“Don’t punish me too harshly, officer,” he reportedly said and noted that he was particularly concerned over what his father’s reaction might be.

He purportedly added, “My father will kill me.”

Rescue workers transported Mutlu home following the incident.

He was unhurt according to local reports. It is unknown at the time of this reporting whether Mutlu faces any charges in connection with the bizarre happening.

Not the first time

The Sun reported that a similar incident occurred in 2012 after a woman who was reported missing in Iceland also found herself.

“The mix-up occurred when the woman left the tourist group and changed clothes,” the outlet reported. “When she returned to the group in a different outfit, the rest of the group did not recognize her and she was reported missing. The tourist participated in the intense police search over the course of a weekend after not noticing the missing person description was indeed her.”

Hours later, the search party was called off when the group realized that the woman for whom they’d been searching was in their party all along.
