Las Vegas magician Rob Anderson knew he wanted to help when he received an email three months ago from a man who had the desire to propose to his girlfriend “in a way that was both a surprise and magical.”
From halfway around the world, Anderson worked with James — a then-stranger who lived in Germany — to craft the perfect proposal.
“I came up with the idea in the video, and we made plans secretly via Skype and Facebook from half a world away,” Anderson told TheBlaze Monday. “The most difficult part was not having any time to rehearse in person until the day before the proposal, when he landed in Vegas.”
The plan called for James’ girlfriend Nicole to attend a street show, where she would be selected by Anderson to participate in. As part of the magic trick, she would be blindfolded, allowing for James — who she didn’t know was there — to sneak in and surprise her with a proposal.
When executed last week, the plan went off perfectly. James walked out, took the stage from Anderson and made the ask.
“Yes,” Nicole said when James finally popped the big question.
Anderson told TheBlaze that “it was the most exciting magic performance” he had ever done.
“It was way more than just a magic performance; I’ll forever be a part of the most important day of their lives, and it was truly an honor that James reached out and asked me to be a part of the engagement,” he said. “Seeing the look on Nicoles face made all the stress and hard work more than worth it.”
The Las Vegas magician added that multiple people were involved in pulling off the creative proposal.
“It took a lot of people coming together to make the whole thing happen; 7 magicians, 3 camera guys, my assistant, Ceasars Entertainment PR director, Linq security, and the friends of the girl who had to get her to the proposal spot at just the right time,” he told TheBlaze.
“We had a couple of last minute things to work out the day of the proposal and since they had international phones without a data plan, there was no way to speak to the girls friends the day of the proposal,” Anderson added. “They showed up with her right on time and I had just finished getting everyone in their places two minutes before she showed up. In the end, everyone worked together and really made it a special day.”
