High Strangeness Series Part Two:

 – Gulf Of Alaska

On June 14th, 2024 a commercial fishing vessel was located about 62 miles west of Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska slightly north of the usual shipping lanes. Around 0400 their sonar operator detected something unusual on the Fish finder. Normally Fish finder sonar shows large schools as shapeless cloud-like clusters. But that morning a massive single contact at approximately 300 ft beneath the surface was detected that was far too big for any whale or school of fish.

Around 0430 crew members were somewhat baffled. None of them had seen sonar returns like that. By 0500 the primary fish finder started losing calibration, the data feed began showing a jumble of nonsense numbers indicating depths jumping to 1,000 ft then 50 ft then with negative readings.

The crew confirmed that the large contact was still below them about 100 ft deeper than the hull where the ocean depth in that area was roughly 400 to 500 ft so there was space beneath for it to maneuver. It was almost as if it had positioned itself directly under the fishing vessel.

One crew member was filming with their phone until the

phone’s screen went haywire with lines of static running across. That was one of the first confirmations that the

interference wasn’t just hitting the boat’s systems but also personal electronics.

The entire vessel trembled at one point not from an impact but from a low frequency vibration that resonated through the hull. People lost their balance and a few crates slid across the deck.

At 0550 the vessel lost all external communications. Even the satellite phone gave a no signal icon despite being functional previously. The VHF radio only emitted static when it was used to attempt to hail anyone. The vessel had an emergency shortwave device that’s typically robust but it too suffered from the pulse interference as though the creature was directly impacting or jamming the vessel’s signals.

Around 0605 the creature’s main body broke the surface about 30 yards off our the starboard side. The vessel’s sea captain cut the engines entirely out of concern that the propellers might provoke it.

Along its flank was some sort of vent. Every time that vent opened the radar console beeped in error. This real time correlation between the creature’s physical movements and the ship’s electronic malfunctions was impossible to ignore.

Eventually the captain decided to fire a flare at the water near the creature to see if it might deter it. He wanted to avoid actually striking the creature hoping the bright flash or loud pop might discourage it. A crewman fired a handheld flare into the air and it landed about 10 yards from the creature. The creature flinched slightly then sank below the surface leaving behind waves that rocked the boat. The crew thought it might be leaving but less than a minute later it reemerged on

the port side nearly within arms reach of the hull.

At this time the ship’s compasses spun wildly while the deck lights flickered on and off. Simultaneously the cabin lights exhibited a strange strobing effect.

At that moment one crew member felt a heavy pressure in his head like a migraine that suddenly erupted. Three other crew members started complaining about odd visual distortions. Each of them described seeing flickers or fields of static in the air. At first they thought it was shock or panic but they insisted they were seeing what looked like arcs or lines around certain electronic devices and even around each other. One tried to walk and ended up stumbling saying he was seeing swirling lines that formed geometric patterns around the ship’s metal rails.

At 0715 the creature moved away from the vessel by roughly 100 yards staying at the surface. It was decided to use its departure to try to get the engines back online and possibly create some distance between the vessel and the creature. The plan was to head east toward known shipping lanes hoping to flag down help or at least reestablish radio contact outside the interference zone.

A naval security team had issued an urgent directive for non-military vessels to vacate the area. That was news to them as they had no prior knowledge of any scheduled naval exercises. Suspicions were furthered heightened when they discovered that the coordinates of the forbidden zone overlapped with the location they had just come from.

Large military-looking helicopters flying low over the water to the west they had no visible markings they could identify just a matte gray paint job they passed overhead continuing in the direction we came from. About half an hour later they received radio call from a man identifying himself as a commander with a naval operations support group who asked for their location coordinates and cargo. The vessel captain answered in general terms stating they were dealing with system malfunctions and heading to port for repairs. Immediately they were told that naval assets were securing the area for an unspecified hazard.

The commander then asked if they had any unusual sightings or events. The fishing vessel captain hesitated then merely said they had electronics trouble to which the commander responded by informing them that a vessel would intercept them shortly with technicians to assist. The tone of the conversation was firm almost threatening and cut off abruptly.

They were confused about what to expect around when a medium-sized craft dark gray with no standard Coast Guard or Navy markings appeared on their radar which was partly functional at that point.

On board were about eight men and women in black gear who boarded their vessel without waiting for an invitation. The leader was from an unspecified private maritime security contractor who demanded to see their data and any recordings. The vessel captain tried to argue but the official produced documents referencing National Security and said they were required to comply.

When the vessel captain asked about the nature of the mysterious operation he was told only that a large unidentified organism had been interfering with maritime traffic leading to multiple incidents. They refused to confirm or deny if it was the same creature that the fishing vessel crew members encountered but the implication was obvious when the crew was informed that they would have to sign non-disclosure agreements.

They gave the fishing vessel some printouts of new temporary routes that we were ordered to follow to reach Kodiak Island.

Over the next 24 hours they experienced no further direct sightings of the creature and their electronics gradually returned to partial functionality though some units were permanently damaged. Some crew members continued to complain of headaches and electric halos but the

intensity diminished by the time they reached Kodiak.
