The Blazing Waco Conflagration: A National Disgrace – Part 2

On April 19th, 1993 at approximately 6:00 a.m., FBI agents deployed 54 ton tanks specially equipped with giant booms to smash through walls of Mt. Carmel and inject a horrendously toxic chemical agent called CS gas while the FBI repeatedly broadcasted over loudspeakers: “THIS IS NOT AN ASSAULT.”

More than two years after the tragedy Attorney General Janet Reno struck new heights of absurdity when she likened a 54 ton tank to a good rent-a-car. An article from The AmericanConservative cogently explains:

In 1995, [Attorney General Janet] Reno testified to Congress and shrugged off the FBI’s use of 54-ton tanks to assail the Davidians, declaring that the tanks were “not military weapons … I mean, it was like a good rent-a-car.”

Other portions of the article described how “media coverage of Reno’s showdown with congressional Republicans ignored her rent-a-tank absurdity, instead praising her toughness and demeanor.”

An appalled Dr. Stone complained, “More than twenty young children, most too young to be protected by gas masks, were subjected to six hours of CS gas.”

Despite the government’s protestations of concern for the children, Dr. Stone found that the FBI’s ultimate strategy was to try to force the Davidians out of their residence by threatening the lives of their children.”

An article in The Austin Chronicle describes severe side reactions produced by CS/Methylene Chloride chemical agents including production of hydrogen cyanide, one of the deadliest gases known.

According to the Cato Institute some 389 ferret rounds were fired into the residence throughout the morning.”

Los Angeles Times article described the fracas:

The ferret rounds were almost like rockets,” said Doyle, 54, who lived at the compound off and on for nearly three decades and was acquitted of all charges at the Branch Davidian trial last year.

They crashed through windows, came whistling past your head and embedded themselves in the wall.”

James H. Brannon, Attorney for David Koresh’s Grandmother, didn’t mince words when he excoriated the FBI before Congress:

My God, torturing babies and saying it’s part of their job? … Oh, my God, where did they think that up?”

After several hours of gassing the FBI’s plan to rescue the children with poisonous gas wasn’t working. At that time the tanks were ordered, not merely to gas, but to commence destruction of the Mt. Carmel building.

The Story of FLIR

During the FBI’s “non-assault” an airplane flew over, filming the event with FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) equipment.

Forward-Looking Infrared technology was designed as a sensor system for fighter aircraft. The first sensors were large, and mounted on the aircraft facing forward, hence the descriptive phrase “Forward Looking.” Today FLIR sensors are much smaller and mobile. FLIR technology essentially senses heat emission, and creates a video image of the heat.

Author Dick Reavis who was a lead witness at congressional hearings on Waco wrote in The Austin Chronicle, “[T]he FLIR tape … shows evidence of three fires arising within three minutes of each other at different points inside Mt. Carmel. Since multiple fires can rarely be spontaneous, the government’s experts argued that the FLIR tape proved that, as President Clinton had said, ‘a bunch of religious fanatics burned themselves up.’”

In the documentary, WACO-A New Revelation (WANR) researchers discovered startling evidence that pyrotechnic devices ignited the three different origins of the fatal Waco fire:

In the evidence locker there are six pyrotechnic flashbang grenades mislabeled as silencers or gun parts.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety they were found in the (1) southwest corner of the building, (2) the dining room and (3) the chapel – all three points of origin of the fire.”

Even more ominous are the conclusions of FLIR pioneering expert Dr. Edward Allard who detected automatic gunfire on the FBI FLIR footage – gunfire that was aimed at the Branch Davidians while Mt. Carmel was being consumed by flames:

FLIR footage s

the left of the CEV [Combat Engineering Vehicle – one of the 54- ton tanks or a Janet Reno rent-a-car]. These are elongated in shape, several feet long, and appear and disappear at a regular rate with regular spacing between them. I note five flashes from one point, appearing and disappearing at the rate of 7-10 per second. … My expert opinion is that these flashes appear to be the muzzle flashes of a fully-automatic firearm, firing at about 500 rounds per minute cyclic rate. Carefully examined, in slow motion and by frame-to-frame observation, the flashes originate to the left and progress to the right, indicating that they are being fired from a source outside the building, and fired into the building.”

FBI Whistleblower Dr. Whitehurst, the narrator for WANR explains: At 12:10 PM the FLIR videotape shows at least two automatic weapons fired into the back of the burning dining

room – the only undamaged exit from the building.

Full Stop! The FBI constantly carped that throughout the teargas assault the Davidians refused to leave. When he testified to Congress FBI Special Agent Bob Ricks prattled:

[W]e thought that their instincts, uh, the motherly instincts would take place and that they would want their children out of that environment. It appears they don’t care that much about their children which is unfortunate.”

Now we find out that the FBI was firing automatic weapons at the back of the building, which were not visible to television camera crews stationed far away, where “the only undamaged exit from the building” was located. The logical question is did they kill anyone?

Dr. Whitehurst narrates: “According to the Justice Department report at least 15 people were shot to death in this location.”

A disgusted Dr. Edward Allard vehemently intoned, “What we have is we have them firing automatic weapons and they’re firing into the burning building and like some sort of cowboy movie they’re firing as they’re retreating. I cannot remember something more sickening than I had to do to witness this.”

Maurice Cox a retired photoanalyst for the National Reconnaissance Office tested the FBI’s claim that the flashes Allard detected on the FBI’s FLIR footage resulted from sunlight reflections and concluded that the flashes of light were indeed gunfire directed at Mt. Carmel.

In January 1999 Cox challenged Director Freeh and Bureau scientists to disprove his findings. They did not respond.”

On January 25, 2000 60 Minutes revisited the Waco inferno disaster and aired a segment titled, “What Really Happened at Waco?”

From CBS News web site:

CBS News hired Paul Beavers, … who used infrared imagery extensively in the British army, …

He compared the infrared tape of his demonstration with the FBI’s tape from Waco. ‘There’s some flashes there, which to me look exactly as if they’re gunfire,’ Beavers says, looking at the Waco tape.

“‘They have all right characteristics. There we go. There we go. Two rounds. It’s what’s called a ‘double-tap. It’s what you expect a trained marksman to do, to fire two rounds within close proximity of each other,’ he says.

“‘One, two, yep it’s not a glitch in the camera,’ Beavers continues. ‘It’s not the sun striking something. It’s not swamp gas reflecting off the planet Venus. This is somebody shooting.’”

FBI’s “rescue plan” was doomed from the start. Their reaction to its predictable yet tragic outcome provides a window into the mindset of demented psychological cripples driven by an overriding proclivity to subjugate rather than behave as even-handed enforcers of the law.
