• The Toxic Tendrils of Cultural Marxism – Part Two

    Part one of this two-part article recounted the formation of the Frankfurt School by European Marxists and the transfer of the that institute from Frankfurt, Germany to Columbia University.

    In 1930 Max Horkheimer took over the Frankfurt School to develop a new Marxism very different from the one in the USSR. This was accomplished by crossing Marx with Freud to propagate the theory that in Western Culture the masses are burdened by “psychological repression” which blinds them to appreciating the utopia that Marxism offers.

    Soon after came Erich Fromm who pioneered the concept of “sexual liberation” and “gender politics.”

    A couple decades later, in 1953, another Frankfurt disciple, Herbert Marcuse, reintroduced the concept of “sexual liberation” in his book Eros & Civilization.

    Steadily, over many decades, leftists have used sex in the public education system in an attempt to brainwash American children into becoming ardent Marxists. Specifically, they’ve instituted a morality-free sex education curriculum right here in the United States.

    Remarkably, just over 50 years ago, sex education was promoted by the establishment to reduce teenage pregnancy and venereal diseases. A 1974 article published in PTA Magazine titled Why Sex Education Belongs in the School reflected the conventional wisdom from that era that “urged sex education to combat ‘the spiraling rate of venereal diseases.’”

    The venerated scholar, Thomas Sowell, points out that, in 1968 “the incidence of venereal disease among young people was cited by the head of the New York City Board of Education as showing the need for ‘a crash educational program.’” [The Thomas Sowell Reader page 157]

    However, the reality was far different from what government bureaucrats were trumpeting:

    • The rate of syphilis infection in 1960 was less than half what it had been in 1950!

    • The rate of infection for gonorrhea declined every year from 1950 to 1957!

    Additionally, fertility rates among teenage girls had been declining for more than a decade since 1957! In a 2008 article published in the Desert News Sowell wrote:

    [T]eenage pregnancy and venereal disease were pictured as the problems for which ‘sex education’ was the solution. In reality, the long downward trend in both not only ended, but rose dramatically, after new attitudes toward sex were promoted in the schools under the guise of educating students.     Leftists championed massive federal aid for sex education programs in the schools and for “family planning” clinics to combat teenage pregnancy and venereal disease. But what was the result of all this profligate spending?

    “In 1978, Sargent Shriver, former head of the Office of Economic Opportunity, which spearheaded the movement for more family planning clinics, testified that during the time period ‘when we have had more clinics, more pills and more sex education than ever in history, teen pregnancy has risen and that venereal diseases skyrocketed by 350%!’” (Emphasis added.)

    If people were lying to promote sex education programs, was their a hidden agenda? A contemporaneous article from that era published in The Journal of School Health, posits that sex education presents “an exciting opportunity to develop new norms.” (Emphasis added.)

    Then in 1966 a second edition of Marcuses’, book was published just in time to influence the radical counterculture of the 1960s which resisted the Vietnam War and vehemently opposed the Draft.

    The convergence of three events:

    • Lying to the public about the sudden rise in venereal diseases and teenage pregnancies when in fact they had been in decline for almost a decade and using those lies to initiate a nation-wide crash “sex education” program while opining how that program presents “an exciting opportunity to develop new norms.”

    • The second publishing of Eros and Civilization which became the bible of the counterculture.

    • The emergence of the 1960s counterculture in connection to the Vietnam War together with the emergence of an abundant supply over-the-counter-anti-fertility pills spawned the “sex and drugs and rock-and-roll” generation. Incidentally, Marcuse is credited for coining the slogan, “make love not war.”

    formed the perfect brew for a Marxist transformation of American society. Bill Lind, who (as explained in part one) coined the phrase Cultural Marxism succinctly explains:

    “RECOGNIZING THE SUCCESS OF CAPITALISM HORKHEIMER REALIZED THAT THE WORKING CLASS WOULD NOT SERVE AS THE VEHICLE FOR A MARXIST REVOLUTION. THE FRANKFURT SCHOOL WOULD NOT FIND A SOLUTION TO THIS CONUNDRUM UNTIL THE 1960s.”

    This is the background that quickened the cultural rot that plagues society today.

    “An exciting opportunity to develop new norms,” – how did that work out?? Where has that taken us? Today included in the edicts of warped pedagogy nothing is more repugnant than the venomous notion of transgenderism being fed to vulnerable children.

    Recently an organization of health care professionals criticized a study published in January 2023 in the New England Journal of Medicine that examined 315 youth claiming to prove the marginal benefits of cross-sex hormones for teenagers who persistently identified as either “transgender” or “non-binary.” In fact during the study two of the youth committed suicide.

    One of the paper’s authors, Johanna Olso, based at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, boasted to CNN in 2014, “We’re definitely in the middle of a gender revolution and it’s exciting.” (Emphasis added.)
