ANOTHER GREAT LETTER OF TRUTH ~

re. the U.S. Department of War

Dear Editor:

Could I possibly be the only American feeling like utter disgrace over the very existence of such a federal agency, so named?
Though for most all of my lifetime, and until just months ago, it’s gone by the deceptive name of “Department of Defense,” not all of us have been fooled.

I would invite my fellow Americans to please just stop and think.  Think back to the overall spirit and wording of the Declaration of Independence.  In that blessed document, is there even a hint that some two and a half centuries later, our profound “shining city on a hill” nation would be maintaining active military bases in some 130 countries around the world?  How did all this happen, why and by whom?!  Preposterous and inconceivable the very idea, I can almost hear Thomas Jefferson protest!

Next, difficult as it may be to do, just try to imagine that throughout its history the American government had remained true to its peace-loving blueprint, never intruding, never inserting itself into the internal affairs of any foreign nation.  Would we then have as much as a single enemy in all the world??  Would we the people be debt-shackled, obligated to support a military industrial complex to the tune of three quarters to a whole trillion dollars annually for “national defense?!”

How very unGodly, how very unChristed, we have allowed our own government to become!  Helpless as I may feel in writing this, I guess my purpose, in part, is an attempt to lift the burden from my own heart, but also appeal to fellow citizens to ponder the consequent atrocities, and as led of individual spirit, take similarly active stands.

America’s current world standing simply has to change, or else our beloved Republic – – if not the entire world – – is soon finished, perhaps irreparably!

Thus do I pray ever so sincerely:  May heaven truly help us all!
